5 Simple Tips for Becoming an Online Celebrity

Aug 02, 2017

There are a bunch of reasons why someone would want to become an online celebrity. It could be to raise awareness about a cause, promote their brand, being popular or making a living out of it. But whatever the reason, becoming famous online is not an overnight kind of thing.

Attracting the right audiences and making them stay with you long term is not easy and requires a lot of hard work and dedication. And if you are doing this to earn money, gaining the attention of eager advertisers is also a big task.

But, even though it’s not that easy, it’s not impossible either. You can gain a prominent online presence and even earn money from it if you strategise each and every move you make. You can’t just do random stuff and then expect to get results. It doesn’t work like that.

To make things a little bit easier for you, here are five tried and true, simple tips that will help you become an online celebrity.

1- Select A Niche That You Are Passionate About:

The very first thing that you must do is choose a niche that you are passionate about. If you post content about something that you are not that interested in, it will be sensed by your audiences. That will be bad, as you can imagine.

Another thing that you need to be really careful about is not choosing multiple niches that are not related with each other in some way. If you do that, you will end up with an audience that will be interested in one part of your channel/profile/blog while being completely dispassionate about the other aspects of your content. That’s also not what you want, right?

Well, what you should do is research thoroughly about the subject that interests you and then if you think that you can post content about it on a regular and long term basis while completely being yourself, only then you should start your channel/profile/blog about it. If you have multiple passions, create multiple social media channels or blogs. Don’t cram all that stuff into one single channel or blog. Otherwise, you won’t get the results that you want.

2- Collaborate With Others:

Once you have established some kind of an audience yourself, you can then collaborate with other bloggers or influencers in your niche to reach out to their audiences as well. You could write guest posts on their blogs, create YouTube video together if you are a YouTuber, or appear on their social media channels in some way so that their audiences can know about you. This is called influencer marketing and if don’t right, it can grow your online presence very quickly.

But keep in mind that while it may sound simple enough in theory, it takes a lot of time and dedication and sometimes, money to build a relationship with your fellow influencers to get them to introduce you to their audiences. The end result will be worth the time and money invested though.

3- Be Yourself:

If you try to be someone you are not, sooner or later, you will come off as fake. Find your very own unique voice and stick to it. The right audiences will follow you as a result and it will be like your own online community that you can be yourself with and that will be without any pretension.

Don’t be afraid to be controversial or out of the box. With the world as large as it is, there will be thousands if not millions of people who think the same way as you do. No matter your niche or ‘voice’, if you look hard enough, you will find a dedicated audience that will follow you, not in spite of, but because of your uniqueness.

4- Fake It ‘Till You Make It:

If you haven’t reached the influencer level yet, that’s no reason to not act like one. Tag brands generously and name drop big influencers in your niche. Talk about them like you are close buds. If you do know them personally, get them to share your content or make an appearance on your social media channel or blog.

Make your brand and yourself seem bigger than you are. People take you on face value on the internet because they have no way of doing a background check on you (unless they are a stalker, then beware!). But, all joking aside, people will believe what you present them with. So behave like an influencer and eventually you will become an influencer yourself.

5- Go With The Flow:

There is always a new trend online to be a part of. The ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ and ‘Roast Yourself Challenge’ are a few examples of these trends. Whatever your niche is, every now and then, there will be a challenge regarding it.

Be a part of these challenges if you want to gather more and more people in your online tribe because these challenges and trends generate a lot of traffic. They are a huge opportunity to get in touch with a completely new audiences and gain new followers.
